About Us
Who We Are
Sunflower is a national NGO established in 1986 to support vulnerable and marginalised communities in Bangladesh. From our origins in the north, we have grown into a trusted organisation working across the country, delivering programmes that reduce poverty, protect rights, and build resilience. With nearly four decades of experience, Sunflower has become a recognised name in community development and international cooperation.
Vision
Our vision is of a just and inclusive Bangladesh where all people can live with dignity, equality, and opportunity.
Mission
Our mission is to empower disadvantaged communities through education, safe water, gender equality, ethnic minority rights, sustainable agriculture, and disaster preparedness. We combine local knowledge with international development practice to deliver lasting change.
Values and Approach
Equity and Inclusion
Ensuring that women, ethnic minorities, and marginalised groups are not left behind.
Transparency and Accountability
Maintaining strong systems for governance, financial reporting, and safeguarding.
Sustainability
Designing projects that create long-term benefits and align with the Sustainable Development Goals.
Community Leadership
Putting communities at the heart of decision-making, ensuring ownership and resilience.
Our approach blends grassroots action with internationally recognised methods. We use logical frameworks, Theory of Change models, and robust monitoring and evaluation to design and measure impact. This ensures our work meets both community needs and donor expectations.
Governance and Capacity
Sunflower is governed by a General Body and an elected Executive Committee, which oversee the strategic direction of the organisation. Day-to-day operations are led by the Executive Director and a team of programme specialists.
We are fully compliant with UK donor expectations and well-versed in international development systems. Our team is experienced in working with INGOs, adapting quickly to new requirements, and ensuring projects meet the highest standards of accountability. Staff communicate fluently in English and maintain professional reporting through email and formal channels, while also using practical tools such as WhatsApp and Zoom for quick coordination.
